Essentials

From Essentials

Jump to: navigation, search

Essentials offers over 100 commands useful on just about every Minecraft server, from kits to mob spawning.

Essentials is the de-facto standard set up for Minecraft servers. From small servers running on on desktops, VPS hosts and dedicated Minecraft services.
Essentials is one of the most popular Bukkit plugins ever made, and runs on everything from small one person home hosted Windows servers, to huge 500+ slot dedicated Linux community servers.

Future Update: While Sponge is still looking to be the best contender for the next iteration of Minecraft server hosting, I've been thus far unable to put together a team with the commitment and time to rewrite Essentials for Sponge.
In the meantime a number of projects have come out for Sponge with the goal of filling the gap left by Essentials, meaning it isn't as important to port Essentials to Sponge.
While the project is not dead yet, and I still hope for a possible resurrection, I wish the best of luck to the new 'Essentials' projects.

Alternative Projects: EssentialsX
Since the official end of the Essentials for Bukkit project, drtshock and his team have taken up the mantel of keeping Essentials alive.
The details of this project can be found here: https://github.com/drtshock/Essentials

Future Plans: After looking through the alternatives, I'm convinced the best way forward for the Minecraft server community is to embrace Sponge.
While I don't have the time to work on the project myself, I'm hoping to be able to put together a team to work on Essentials for Sponge, when Sponge comes closer to being feature complete.
This won't be for some time, as Sponge has got a lot of work to catch up on, to get back to the same coverage as Bukkit, but ultimately, due to native mod support, I think we will be much better off than we were on the Bukkit platform.

6 September 2014

Project Update: The FINAL version of Essentials for Bukkit has been released.
Essentials will not be updating for 1.8, 1.9 or future Spigot releases.
Due to recent changes in my available free time (I'm working long hours at work), and the recommendation of my legal council regarding the Bukkit DMCA situation, I will not be updating the Essentials for Bukkit project going forward. Essentials is however an open source project so I'm sure there will be many forks of this project going forward.

So far essentails warp, ban, help, and home have been merged. I'll update as soon as more news comes to me.

6 March 2011

Sorry for the lack of updates. I been busy. Hopefully I can finally release the group manager tutorial. It was delayed because of the constant changes made by its developer.

Each month, the news will be cleared and readied for the current month. Logging all the news would just saturate this page with updates that will be very evident and explained on other pages. I want to keep this page simply for quick tid-bits about new features/developments.
